Friends of the Alfieri Castle

It was because of the faith in life that the Association of the Alfieri castle is born: so, it was announced by the founding member Renato Penna on the local newspaper ”Il Paese”: on Saturday the 26 th October at 11 o’clock ( 1991) in the Board room of the Townhall it finally received the official baptism, enshrined by notarial act, the Association Friends of Alfieri castle.

Famous godparents of the newborn organism were the highest representatives of the associations already active in the Magliano area, the priests of the two parishes and a lot of members of the town administration. (….).

The association equipped with regular status aims to promote the recovery and the protection of the Castle,(….) will have to engage first of all to complete in reasonably quickly the preparation of the Museum of Arts and popular traditions, taking care of the intelligent management which also aims at the constitution of a Study Center of the ethnographic and historical heritage that could works as driving force behind further researches connected with the Museum.

AND THEN WE GREW UP

Over the years new young people have joined the Association by keeping faith with the previous engagements of documentation and protection of the architectonic,historical-archaeological and landscape heritage of the Magliano area, through initiatives carried out in cooperation with other local organizations, in the area of Alba and Roero and with regional, province and state institutions. The Museum of folk Arts and traditions, today “ the town Museum Antonio Adriano”, was created in the rooms on the first floor of the Alfieri castle and it can be visited from April to October in the two sections, the one dedicated to the plaster ceilings and the second one devoted to the landscape of Langa, Roero and Monferrato.

Over time the interventions have been differentiated and enriched with publishing, recreational and charity activities, to the educational actions aimed at teachers, entertainers, students and tourist guides.

For years the attention is focused on the problems connected with the nature world, economics and agriculture, by supporting through initiatives typical products of the area and choices of good agricultural practices.

New lymph has marked the growing path of our Association thanks to important cooperations with other groups active in the Alba area, between which we can remember the Diocesano Museum and the” Ecomusem of Roero Rocche”.

The encounter with the” Service center for Volunteering” in 2007 opened our eyes over a world that chose to devote time and energy to life care in all its forms: a multitude of creatives and caring boys and adults to whom we are proud to belong.
